Year 4 Curriculum

In Year 4, children dive into exciting history and geography topics. They learn about the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxon struggle for England, explore why so many people live in megacities, and think about how we can live more sustainably. They also study earthquakes, discovering why some cause more damage than others, and finish the year exploring the wonders of Ancient Egypt, including what everyday life was like and how artefacts help us understand the past.

In English, children enjoy a wide variety of texts, from Arthur and the Golden Rope to The Egyptian Cinderella and Shakespeare stories. They write myths, reports, poems, balanced arguments, and creative narratives. In maths, they work with larger numbers, fractions, decimals, and geometry, and develop skills in time, money, statistics, and problem-solving. Science topics include habitats, electricity, states of matter, sound, conservation, and the human digestive system.

Creative work includes painting inspired by Lowry, drawing in the style of Anna Atkins, sculpture, embroidery, and design projects such as Viking purses, earthquake warning systems, and Egyptian boxes. Children continue developing musical skills with singing, glockenspiel, and samba, while PE includes swimming, dance, gymnastics, athletics, and team sports. PSHE covers friendships, online safety, global citizenship, health, and money. In RE, children learn about Judaism, Christianity, and Humanism. Computing projects involve creating posters, eBooks, films, music, and working with data, while French lessons cover family, school, and shopping.

Overall, the Year 4 curriculum encourages children to be curious about the world, to develop resilience and creativity, and to build strong knowledge and skills across all subjects.
