School Admissions

Admissions

As a Chester West and Chester Local Authority Maintained School, we follow the local authority Admissions Arrangements. Please see link below :

https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/education-and-learning/school-admissions

The school operates a planned admissions limit of 30 per class.  It is Local Authority policy to admit all children who reach the age of 5 in the appropriate academic  year at the beginning of the Autumn Term.  However, the intake will be staggered over a two-week period.

All parents, whether in-zone or out-of-zone, wishing to register their child for consideration for a place in the Reception class, must have registered their child the year before the September start date of the appropriate year and must be registered by the stated date: failure to do so will mean that your child will not be considered for a place if the numbers exceed the planned admission limit of 30.  Parents must understand that there is no longer an automatic right for in-zone parents to secure a place for their child at the school.

It is also important to make clear that any children moving into the catchment area can only be admitted if there are places available.

 In-year Admissions

If you would like to apply for a place in our school during the school year and your child is aged 5-11 please complete the in-year application form on the Cheshire West and Chester web page, please see link below:

https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/education-and-learning/school-admissions/in-year-school-transfers

If, in any year the school receives more applications for places than there are places available, a waiting list will operate.

In order to be added to this waiting list you must complete an application using the in-year application as above.

Appeals

Choosing your child’s primary or secondary school can be a difficult decision for you to make. The law does not give you a choice of school, but it allows you to ‘express a preference’. In Cheshire West and Chester most parents and Carers get a place for their child in the school they want. However, occasionally demand is higher than there are places available; therefore, some parents are refused a place for their child.  If this happens you have a legal right to appeal. If you believe that you have sufficient grounds on which to appeal against the decision not to admit your child, you can submit an appeal. For further guidance on the appeal process please see link below.
