History

The primary history curriculum at Waverton Primary School is designed to be broad, ambitious, and knowledge rich. It enables children to develop a sense of curiosity and wonder about the past. It helps them understand how the past has shaped the present and how people and events have changed over time.

  • Chronology: To develop children's chronological understanding; organising children’s understanding of when in the past they are learning about and how this relates to what they have learned previously 

  • Historical evidence: To help children understand how historians know about the past; how we can use this and the limitations 

  • To help children understand historical concepts, such as change, cause and effect, and significance.

  • To help children to develop their research skills, so they can find out information about the past.

  • Reasons and results: To encourage children to ask questions about the past and to seek answer and make links and comparisons.

  • Interpretations: To help children to understand different perspectives on historical events.

  • Knowing where in the world. using maps to develop an understanding about where in the world things happened.
