Maths
At Waverton Primary, our mathematics curriculum is designed to develop confident, fluent and resilient mathematicians who possess a deep and secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Our curriculum aims to nurture curiosity about number, pattern and problem solving and to ensure all pupils achieve success through a mastery approach. We follow the Power Maths scheme to provide a coherent, ambitious and progressive curriculum that enables children to build rich, connected knowledge over time.
Our mathematics curriculum aims to:
· Develop strong number sense and secure fluency in foundational skills.
· Build understanding of key mathematical structures across number, geometry, measure, statistics and algebra.
· Equip pupils with the ability to reason mathematically, explain their thinking, justify methods and make generalisations.
· Promote confident problem solving, enabling pupils to apply skills to both real-life and abstract contexts.
· Ensure all pupils, regardless of starting point, develop a deep and lasting understanding of mathematical ideas.
· Inspire pupils to enjoy mathematics, think creatively and approach challenges with resilience and independence.
