Year 2 Curriculum
In Year 2, children continue to explore the world through exciting topics in history and geography. They learn about the Great Fire of London and how it changed the city, discover why we remember important people and events, compare life in a village in Brunei with life in Waverton, and explore where our food comes from. Later in the year, they investigate seaside holidays in the past and what makes the coast special today.
In English, children enjoy a range of stories, poems, and non-fiction, including The Story of Rama and Sita, Grandad’s Island, and Jack and the Baked Beanstalk, while learning to write diaries, letters, information texts, and persuasive pieces. In maths, they build confidence with numbers up to 100, learn about money, time, fractions, shapes, and statistics. Science is very practical, with children investigating materials, plants, animals, life cycles, and habitats both locally and around the world.
Creativity is encouraged through art and design projects inspired by William Morris and Alfred Wallis, as well as making castles, tuk-tuks, and textile designs. Children also explore different faiths and beliefs in RE, develop musical skills with singing, glockenspiel, and performances, and enjoy a wide range of sports and activities in PE. PSHE helps them think about relationships, safety, money, and online life, while computing gives them the chance to experiment with simple programming, storytelling, and even AI tools.
Overall, the Year 2 curriculum helps children to grow in independence, creativity, and confidence, while building strong foundations for their future learning in Key Stage 2.
