Year 6 2019 - 2020

Mrs Cartwright

Welcome to the Year 6 class page.

Our current topic is World War 2. Our enquiry question is 'How did the Battle of Britain influence World War 2?'  The children have generated question which we will use as part of our unit. Why did World War 2 start? Who or what  caused WW2?  Who was involved in WW2? What was the Battle of Britain? How did it effect the war?

Wednesday 13th March at the Story House.

We have been working hard to learn the songs. Keep practising at home.

Our new unit of work is based around the book 'Skellig' by David Almand. Our writing intention for this unit is suspense writing. Look out for our writing, which builds up tension.

This term we are learning about light and applying our knowledge to work out who committed the crime.

We are working on drawing, with a focus on shade and light using a variety of different medium. We will look closely at art by Henry Moore, focusing on his sketches of  people in air raid shelters during World War 2.

In maths this term we will cover: percentages, ratio and proportion, shape, measurement and co-ordinates. After the Spring Break, we will start a revision programme; going over each area we have covered in preperation for SAT's.

Our PE this term is Hockey and dance, moving onto cricket and athletics.

On Thursday 28th March we will visit the Imperial War museum in Manchester. This visit will support the children's learning as part of our current learning.

Please remember if you have any questions or queries, please come in and talk to me. If you are not around at the start or end of the day, drop an email to the office and I can get in touch.
