Mr Simpson

Welcome to our Year 4 class page.

Week Beginning 2/11/20

Hello Year 4,

I have been so proud of how you have settled into your new class and our strange new ways of working. You have adapted to our new routines so quickly and with the minimum of fuss.

It has been lovely getting to know you over the last few weeks and I am really excited about the year ahead, you are such a lovely bunch!

Stay safe and positive,

Mr Simpson x

Dear Parents

We have been looking at G –Suite for Education, which includes Google Classroom to support children’s learning in and out of school.

There are a lot of videos about google classroom out there for parents – the following are quite short and to the point. It’s important that if children will be using iPads/Android at home that they download all of the Google Apps first (listed in attached document)

Parent Guide to Google Classroom - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Iowi-gmbys

Submitting work from a Computer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsD1QJEN0Yg

Submitting work from a Tablet - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTPYDkex-og

Year 4 have accessed work on Google Classroom in school and should know how to complete and ‘turn in’ their assignments. I have set this week’s homework on Google Classroom, a fact-file entitled All About Me, this is a trial run to give them a bit of practice with the new platform.

The login for Google Classroom can be found on a sticker at the back of the children’s reading diary.

Kind regards,

Mr Simpson

To help you continue learning while you are away from school, follow the timetable below. This timetable is intended as a guide to support learning at home during a prolonged period of school closure. We appreciate that you will have differing demands on your time but hope that this helps in continuing 'a love of learning' at home.

The timetable below is designed to help structure each day, if you are able to follow it. If not, just do what you can!  Remember, the main thing is to have fun and stay safe!  Take care,

Mr Simpson

Message from Mrs Croft SENCO

We appreciate this is a challenging time, I wanted to share this quote that has been circulating between schools. If after one day of home learning, you are wondering how you’ll get through the next few weeks read this, take a break, then start again tomorrow!

‘Arguing with your kids to do work is not what anyone needs right now. Instead, cuddle up together and read, read, read. Take turns reading. Read them your favourite novel (yes, you can read novels to small children). Do a puzzle. Build a fort. Bake. Watch TV together. Paint. Get out the lego and build together. Set up a tent in your living room and camp out. Look at photos of when you were a kid. In other words… Don’t stress about them forgetting. Don’t stress about home schooling them. Just spend time together. Your kids won’t learn much if they’re feeling stressed. Though this is a scary time, it could very well be a time they remember as the best time in their life.’

If you are feeling anxious, or would just like tips on relaxation for yourself and your child, download the smiling mind app. It’s great to do with the whole family. I use it when I can’t sleep. There are programs for different ages. It’s great! I have also put a list of charities and helpline phone numbers on my SENCO page. Stay safe and well.

Mrs Croft
