Mr Simpson

Welcome to our Year 4 class page.

Week Beginning 14/09/20

Hello Year 4,

I have been so proud of how you have settled into your new class and our strange new ways of working. You have adapted to our new routines so quickly and with the minimum of fuss.

It has been lovely getting to know you over the last few weeks and I am really excited about the year ahead, you are such a lovely bunch!

For those of you who will be working from home for the next few weeks, please find the work below. This will be updated on a daily basis, so keep checking this page for the most relevant work.

Stay safe and positive,

Mr Simpson x

To help you continue learning while you are away from school, follow the timetable below. This timetable is intended as a guide to support learning at home during a prolonged period of school closure. We appreciate that you will have differing demands on your time but hope that this helps in continuing 'a love of learning' at home.

The timetable below is designed to help structure each day, if you are able to follow it. If not, just do what you can!  Remember, the main thing is to have fun and stay safe!  Take care,

Mr Simpson

Use the above link to access a Youtube video of our story Counting on Katherine.

Listen to the story up to the sentence 'she got the job' then PAUSE!

Think about what your dream job would be.

You are going to plan and then write a letter of application for that dream job.

See Files to Download for an example plan and letter.

The words in bold are prepositions and conjunctions. Can you please include examples of these in your letter?

Topic: Where would you choose to build a city?

Think of a well known city. It could be Chester or somewhere else that is well known to you.

Make a list of all the features of that city, ie what leisure, shopping, entertainment, religious, emergency services, educational facilities does it have?

Can you think of other features not mentioned on my list above?

Write - 'Features of a City' in the middle of your page and create a mind map (like we did in science last week) by writing all the features NEATLY around the page.

See sheet in Files to Download.

You can use this sheet by printing it out or you can create your own.

DO THURSDAY TOPIC LESSON FIRST!

Write about the city you designed on City Creator.

Write the title 'My City Design' at the top of your page.

Using bullet points, give a detailed description of the function of each building ie. some buildings could have more than one use such as a skyscraper which has shops, apartments and restaurants.

DO THIS LESSON BEFORE DOING THE ENGLISH LESSON.

Topic: Where would you choose to build a city?

http://www.citycreator.com/

Use City Creator to design your own city using the features you thought of from yesterday.

Think about the road network, pavements and green parkland areas as well as hospital, factories, hotels, cinemas, restaurants, apartments etc.

TOP TIP: lay out the roads and pavements first.

Have a look at my example in Files to Download.

Good luck and have fun

Message from Mrs Croft SENCO

We appreciate this is a challenging time, I wanted to share this quote that has been circulating between schools. If after one day of home learning, you are wondering how you’ll get through the next few weeks read this, take a break, then start again tomorrow!

‘Arguing with your kids to do work is not what anyone needs right now. Instead, cuddle up together and read, read, read. Take turns reading. Read them your favourite novel (yes, you can read novels to small children). Do a puzzle. Build a fort. Bake. Watch TV together. Paint. Get out the lego and build together. Set up a tent in your living room and camp out. Look at photos of when you were a kid. In other words… Don’t stress about them forgetting. Don’t stress about home schooling them. Just spend time together. Your kids won’t learn much if they’re feeling stressed. Though this is a scary time, it could very well be a time they remember as the best time in their life.’

If you are feeling anxious, or would just like tips on relaxation for yourself and your child, download the smiling mind app. It’s great to do with the whole family. I use it when I can’t sleep. There are programs for different ages. It’s great! I have also put a list of charities and helpline phone numbers on my SENCO page. Stay safe and well.

Mrs Croft
